What is Local Hack Day: Share?

Local Hack Day: Share is a week-long celebration of sharing everything you’ve learned as a hacker. If you’ve been hacking with us all year, we’re excited to have you back. If this is your very first event, we’ve got a ton of beginner-friendly challenges for you to complete that’ll have you shipping your hack like a pro in no time. You’ll have your pick of technical, design, and social challenges to complete - each with an emphasis on sharing your work. The more challenges you conquer, the more points you’ll earn. What are these Challenges?

Local Hack Day: Share will run from Sunday, March 28th to Monday, April 5th. During this time, you can expect challenges for all skill levels. We will have plenty of both week-long and daily challenges to keep you busy. Week-long challenges will be accessible for the entire week, so you can hack on them whenever you have free time. Daily challenges are only available for 24 hours after they’re originally posted, so make sure you come back each day to see which challenges you’re going to conquer.

Challenges will range from social challenges urging you to connect with other members of the community, technical challenges that will expand your coding skills, and design challenges to refine your skills as a creator and artist. We cannot wait to see all you learn, build, and share.

What is a Guild? How can I be a part of it?

One of the best parts of our community is that it allows people to meet and make connections with others, regardless of where you live. guilds are smaller communities within Local Hack Day. Whether you come in with a guild or not, you won’t be hacking alone.

Eligibility

This event open to hackers, all over the world. While we primarily work with student hackers or those who have graduated within the last 12 months, working professionals are also welcome to join us. Students can include high school students, university undergraduate or postgraduate students, and people who are in vocational training such as apprenticeships.

As per our Code of Conduct, there is no discrimination on the basis of race, religion, national origin, color, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, social class, economic status, veteran status, disability, or age.

Requirements

Your challenge submission must be completed within the submission period (Thursday, April 1st at 12 PM EST - Friday, April 2nd at 12 PM EST)

Your code must be available in some sort of public repository.

If you're continuing work on an old project, you MUST specify in your Devpost what was worked on 1) before this day of LHD: Share and 2) during this day of LHD: Share.

Share a Unique Language

Share your love for programming by using a unique language. Maybe you’ve heard of Python, but have you heard of the Shakesphere programming language? It’s a language that will make your code look like a Shakespherian play. Submit your hipster hack here.

Build a project that uses a data set

For this project, don’t just use any data set, we want you to use one shared by another hacker. Head to #data-sharing to post a public data set you’ve found and see what other hackers have found. Your project doesn’t need to be complex - we just want you to try working with data!

Getting started in technology isn’t easy, but luckily there are so many tutorials made by community members to help you get started with any new skill. Pick out any tutorial to build something.

Silly Demo Video

Demos don’t always need to be serious. Create a silly project and demo it or create a silly demo for a project you’ve already built.
